New York Eleven is a
collaboration of eleven
prestigious New York State
educational institutions
offering four-year programs
in interior design. Each year these 11 schools
exhibit their thesis projects in Albany, New York, as well as in New York
City.
The exhibition raises the awareness of the complexity and responsibility
of the Interior Design profession as well as to the health, safety and
welfare of the public.
Most importantly, this exhibition provides an opportunity for industry
partners, designers and our future designers to meet.
This exhibition also shows the important contribution that Interior Design
imparts today. In addition, it emphasizes our role as a major economic
force in New York State.
About New York Eleven
Ten years ago, Ruth Lynford, FASID, IIDA, CID, AIA. Assoc, was fortunate
enough to start a student exhibition with six of the New York metropolitan
area interior design institutions. That exhibit was under the auspices
of the International Council for a Caring Community (ICCC), a non-governmental
agency of the United Nations.
In 2002, eleven prestigious educational institutions in New York State,
all offering four-year degree programs in Interior Design, joined together
in efforts to reach legislators and the public with an exhibit of student
work. This year represents the seventh consecutive year that student projects
will be displayed at the Legislative Building in Albany, New York, and
at the Teknion in New York City, with ribbon cutting ceremonies
opening each exhibit. Each year the experience for the participating educational
institutions and the exposure for the profession have proven invaluable.
This spring, we will again show diverse projects of student work.
